John Stout Killed, Blake Patraw Arrested after Hit-and-Run Accident on Yorktown Avenue and Newland Street

 
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (April 18, 2022) — A 81-year-old man identified as John Stout died after a hit-and-run accident on Thursday, April 14.
 
According to Huntington Beach police, the incident happened just before 5:00 p.m. on the corner of Yorktown Avenue and Newland Street.
 
A vehicle traveled east on Yorktown Avenue and had just crossed through the Newland Street intersection. Then it struck Stout who was not in a marked crosswalk, police said.
 
The driver drove away. An ambulance rushed Stout to a hospital, where he died.
 
According to Stout’s relatives, their grandfather left a little before 5:00 p.m. for what he said would be a quick walk.
 
Stout reportedly has Alzheimer’s and dementia. So after about an hour of him being gone, relatives looked for him. When they walked around the corner, they saw the scene of the incident.
 
Huntington Beach police confirmed Friday they arrested a suspect through the help of a tip from the community. They arrested 23-year-old Blake Patraw at around 9:30 a.m. Friday morning.
