19-Year-Old Man Dies in DUI Crash on Road 92 at Avenue 260, Jerry Avila Arrested
TULARE COUNTY, CA (July 26, 2021) – Jerry Diaz Avila was arrested for DUI after a fatal crash in Tulare County late Saturday evening, July 24.
The crash happened around 10:45 p.m. on Road 92 at Avenue 260. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 21-year-old suspect from Tulare was driving a vehicle north on Road 92 with a 19-year-old Hanford woman in the passenger seat. For unknown reasons, he crossed directly into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a pickup truck.
The impact ejected the driver of the pickup, a 19-year-old Visalia man. The victim suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The 19-year-old passenger in Avila’s vehicle sustained major injuries. Paramedics rushed her to a hospital in an unknown condition.
CHP officials found Avila to be under the influence of alcohol during the crash. They arrested and booked him into jail for DUI and manslaughter charges.
Further investigation is underway.
