Jerome Reed Injured in Cement Truck Accident on Lerdo Highway [Shafter, CA]

Jerome Reed Hospitalized in Truck Crash on Lerdo Highway near Scaroni Avenue

 
SHAFTER, CA (October 23, 2022) — A cement truck driver identified as 54-year-old Jerome Reed, of Bakersfield, suffered injuries in a crash.
 
According to Bakersfield Communications Center, shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, they received a call about a solo-car crash. The incident involved a cement truck on Lerdo Highway, west of Scaroni Avenue.
 
The investigation determined that Reed drove a 2015 Peterbilt three-axle cement truck westbound on Lerdo Highway at about 60 miles per hour. Then the Peterbilt’s front left tire failed. This caused the truck to turn from the westbound lane through the eastbound lane and leave the road.
 
The cement truck subsequently left the south road edge. Then it collided into an orchard tree, a power pole, and two parked vehicles. The truck came to rest on its wheels pinning Reed inside it.
 
Kern County Fire Department personnel extricated Reed and they brought him to Kern Medical for treatment of injuries.
 
CHP said Reed wore his seatbelt during the incident.
 
Officials do not believe alcohol and or drugs contributed as a factor in the crash.
