Ivory Barnes, Teen Detained, 2 Officers Struck, Injured During Police Pursuit near Farrell Drive and Mesquite Avenue

 
PALM SPRINGS, CA (December 23, 2022) — Ivory Barnes and a teen were arrested after hitting and injuring two officers during a police chase near Farrell Drive and Mesquite Avenue.
 
According to reports, the incident unfolded around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday. Officers patrolling the area for recent burglaries and thefts attempted a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry near Murray Canyon Drive and South Toledo Avenue. However, the suspects failed to comply. The driver in the Camry sped off, prompting a police pursuit.
 
According to police, the Camry driver ran a stop sign and drove the wrong way several times. After finally stopping on a driveway, the Camry driver reversed at a high rate of speed. However, the officers had already exited their patrol car at this point when one person in the Camry had escaped from the passenger seat. The two officers were hit and pinned against the reversing vehicle, suffering injuries in the incident.
 
From there, the chase continued but not for too long as the Camry crashed into a rock landscape. Police succeeded in arresting the 15-year-old Camry driver and 63-year-old Barnes — the passenger in the car.
 
Following the incident, paramedics brought the Palm Springs officers to a hospital for treatment as they are expected to be okay. During the investigation, authorities found four stolen catalytic converters and a Sawzall.
