SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA (October 10, 2022)Harald Herrmann was killed in a bicycle accident on Highway 1 in San Mateo County on Wednesday morning, September 28.

Around 11:35 a.m., 43-year-old Vincent Qualls of Oakland was driving a box truck when he crossed the double-yellow lines from the southbound lane of the highway toward the northbound side and struck the victim who was riding his bicycle.

After striking Herrman, Qualls continued across the northbound lanes and struck a tree, suffering a broken leg.

Qualls told officers that he was exhausted and distracted by a puppy inside his vehicle. He was later arrested.
