Wrong-Way DUI Crash in Rialto Kills Riverside Man, Bloomington Man Arrested

 
RIALTO, CA (June 29, 2023)Gregory Cruz was killed in a DUI wrong-way crash in Rialto Saturday evening on June 24.
 
The fatal crash happened around 8:43 p.m. in the 300 block of West Santa Ana Avenue. According to the Rialto Police Department, 48-year-old Jose Saavedra-Escoto of Bloomington was driving a white Ford F-150 pickup truck westbound on Santa Ana Avenue from Willow Avenue when he crossed over into the eastbound lanes. While driving the wrong way, he collided into a white Chevrolet Lumina, driven by Cruz.
 
As a result of the crash, Cruz suffered life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a local trauma center, where he later died. He was a 59-year-old Riverside resident.
 
Meanwhile, Saavedra-Escoto sustained minor injuries.
 
Police later arrested Saavedra-Escoto and booked him into West Valley Detention Center on a charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, with a bail amount of $250,000.
