Good Samaritan Dies after Struck by Vehicle while Trying to Help Crash Victim on 5 Freeway in Anderson

ANDERSON, CA (November 27, 2022) – A good Samaritan was killed in a pedestrian accident on 5 Freeway in Anderson late Thursday afternoon.

The fatal crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving, just south of Balls Ferry Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a motorcycle hit a deer in unclear circumstances. The rider then lost control and was thrown off the bike.

A woman who saw the crash stopped to help the rider who was partially in the left lane. That was when the driver of a Toyota Camry from San Francisco failed to see the two people in the road and hit them.

Both the good Samaritan and the motorcyclist died at the scene. They were not yet identified.

It is unknown if the driver of the Camry remained after the crash.

Authorities said alcohol and drugs were not contributing factors. Further investigation is underway.

We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
