Car Crashes Embankment on 5 Freeway in Boyle Heights Killing Driver and Badly Injuring Passenger

 
BOYLE HEIGHTS, CA (July 12, 2023) – Fernando Vazguez was killed in a car accident in Boyle Heights early Saturday morning on July 8.
 
The fatal accident happened around 4:41 a.m. on 5 Freeway at Whittier Boulevard. According to the CHP, Vazguez was driving a 2009 Honda Accord with a 19-year-old woman as his passenger. The car was traveling northbound on the freeway when for unknown reasons, it struck an embankment and a tree.
 
As a result, Vazguez suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 20-year-old Los Angeles resident, according the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
 
The woman riding with him was ejected and suffered multiple broken bones. Paramedics rushed her to a hospital in an unknown condition.
 
Neither Vazguez nor his passenger were wearing seatbelts.
 
An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
