Erik Steverson Arrested, One Dead in DUI Wrong-Way Crash on Bay Bridge near 580 Freeway

 
OAKLAND, CA (September 8, 2021) — Erik Steverson faces charges in a deadly DUI wrong-way accident on the Bay Bridge near the 580 Freeway.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly multi-car accident happened around 1:00 a.m. For DUI-related reasons, a driver in a Chevrolet Impala drove in the wrong direction on the Bay Bridge near the 580 Freeway. As a result, the vehicle collided with a Volkswagen Jetta and several other cars.
 
Following the incident, paramedics responded and pronounced one person deceased at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, the wrong-way driver, later identified as 32-year-old Steverson, reportedly ran from the scene and hid in a bush. However, authorities captured him shortly after and arrested him on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run and DUI.
