DUI Hit-and-Run Suspect Causes Fatal Crash Involving 3 Vehicles in Cathedral City

 
CATHEDRAL CITY, CA (January 3, 2024) – Enma Calbillo was killed in a DUI hit-and-run crash in Cathedral City late Sunday evening on December 24.
 
The fatal crash happened around 11:21 p.m. on Date Palm Drive, just south of Varner Road. According to the Cathedral City Police Department, 21-year-old Angel Torres was driving northbound on Date Palm Drive when he made a unsafe turn on the on-coming southbound lane, where he collided with two other cars.
 
After the crash, Torres fled the scene.
 
Calbillo was the driver of one of the two other cars. She suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was a 48-year-old Cathedral City resident, according to the Riverside County Coroner.
 
Police later found Torres and arrested him. They booked him into Riverside County John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics.
