Officer Slams into Burger Shop in El Monte after Hit by Suspected DUI Driver

 
EL MONTE, CA (April 15, 2024) – Maclovio Figueroa was arrested in a DUI crash in El Monte Thursday evening on April 11.
 
The crash happened at Art’s Burger located at 11629 Valley Boulevard. According to the CHP, an El Monte officer was driving to a service call when Figueroa crashed into the patrol car.
 
The impact sent the patrol car over the curb and into the burger shop’s archway, causing the roof to partially collapse. The car then continued skidding and hit a second awning structure in the back.
 
A female employee was injured as glass and debris entered her eyes during the impact. She required medical care but is doing well and recovering.

Paramedics took the officer to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, police arrested the 47-year-old suspect on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The crash also shut down the restaurant since they are unable to pay their employees or earn income from regular customers.

For now, they are trying to find the funds to pay around 20 employees who have been forced out of work.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help support the restaurant’s workers and rebuilding efforts.
