DUI Crash on Highway 101 in Atascadero Kills Passenger, Driver Arrested

 
ATASCADERO, CA (January 24, 2024)Edna Marquez Galindo was killed in a DUI crash in Atascadero late Sunday evening on January 21.
 
The fatal crash happened around 10:42 p.m. on Highway 101, just south of the Del Rio Road over-crossing. According to the California Highway Patrol, 37-year-old Oscar Del La Mora Marin of Reedley was driving a Subaru Impreza with Galindo as his passenger. He was speeding between 90 and 100 mph southbound when he swerved into the center divider.
 
When he tried to return his vehicle to the roadway, he over-corrected and spun clockwise across both southbound lanes. The Subaru then rolled over on the nearby frontage road.
 
Galindo was ejected from the car and suffered major injuries. She was rushed to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, where she later died. She was a 32-year-old Fresno resident.
 
Meanwhile, Mora Marin only sustained minor injuries.

Police arrested Mora Marin was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. They booked him into San Luis Obispo County Jail without bail.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
