Driver Dies in Fiery 2-Car Crash on Rancho Santa Fe Road in San Marcos

 
SAN MARCOS, CA (February 24, 2023) — A driver died in a fiery 2-car accident on Rancho Santa Fe Road near La Colusa Drive.
 
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal collision happened around 7:00 a.m. Thursday. For some reason, a driver lost control of his northbound 2016 Jeep Cherokee on Rancho Santa Fe Road. His vehicle struck a raised median, veered into the southbound lanes and slammed into a 2008 Lincoln MKZ. The Jeep proceeded to overturn and catch on fire.
 
Moments later, emergency crews arrived and extricated both drivers from their respective vehicles. Medics quickly rushed them to a hospital where the driver of the Lincoln passed away.
 
The Jeep driver received treatment for minor injuries.
 
Officials did not state the ultimate cause of the accident; however, they do not suspect impairment to have played a role in the crash. If anyone has seen this accident, please contact the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
