Driver Hospitalized, 2 Semi-Trucks Collide on 80 Freeway in Richmond
RICHMOND, CA (June 22, 2023) — A driver suffered major injuries after two big rigs crashed on the 80 Freeway near Potrero Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the double big rig accident happened early Tuesday. For an unknown reason, a big rig driver carrying sugar struck another big rig carrying carnival equipment.
The driver of the semi-truck shuttling sugar suffered major injuries, and paramedics airlifted the patient to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. The other driver did not report any injuries.
The crash that happened around 1:30 a.m. shut down all four lanes of the westbound freeway. By 3:05 a.m., CHP officers opened the far-left lane.
