Driver Killed, Two Injured in Wrong-Way Accident on 5 Freeway

 
YREKA, CA (November 2, 2022) — A driver died and two suffered injuries in a wrong-way crash on the 5 Freeway on Sunday, October 30.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, its Yreka dispatch center received a report at 9:18 p.m. about a two-car crash. The incident happened on the southbound 5 Freeway north of the Grenada Irrigation District overcrossing.
 
The caller stated one of the vehicles went on the wrong way on the freeway before the incident.
 
According to the CHP officers, the wrong-way driver of a gray 2017 Honda CR-V struck a 2023 Ford E-450 U-Haul van head-on in the left-hand lane.
 
CHP said the 37-year-old male driver of the Honda was a resident of Grover Beach. He died at the scene.
 
Two people inside the U-Haul sustained moderate injuries. Paramedics rushed them to Fairchild Medical Center for treatment.
