63-Year-Old Woman Killed in Amtrak Train Crash near Somis Road in Camarillo

 
CAMARILLO, CA (January 7, 2024) – A driver after an Amtrak train hit a vehicle near Somis Road, Tuesday morning.
 
According to the Ventura County Fire Department, the incident happened on January 2, at about 10:35 a.m. For reasons still under investigation, a westbound white sedan stopped on the railroad tracks.
 
The engineer applied emergency brakes. However, the Amtrak Surfliner 765 could not stop in time and hit the vehicle near the intersection with Upland Road.
 
A helicopter transported the sedan driver to a local trauma center, where she later died. Authorities only identified the victim as a 63-year-old woman. Her name is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
 
None of the passengers sustained injuries.
 
The Camarillo Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the fatal accident. Anyone with information is asked to call Deputy Luke Riordan at (805) 388-5100.
