Dorothy Cousins, James Hendrickson Dead, David Hart Hurt in 2-Car Crash on Highway 1 near Molera Road

 
CASTROVILLE, CA (May 25, 2023) — Dorothy Cousins and James Hendrickson died in a 2-car accident on Highway 1 near Molera Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly two-vehicle collision happened around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.
 
For an unknown reason, 69-year-old David Hart, of Santa Cruz, allowed his northbound 2016 GMC Sierra to cross over the double yellow lines. As a result, the GMC careered into the path of a southbound 2016 Mazda CX-5. Both vehicles crashed, and the 79-year-old Soquel woman driving the Mazda — Dorothy Cousins — passed away at the scene. Cousins’ 76-year-old rear seat passenger — James Hendrickson, a resident of Dandridge, Tennessee — also died.
 
Hart and a 73-year-old Tennessee woman in the Mazda suffered major injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment.
 
Due to the severity of the collision, officers closed southbound Highway 1 for a couple of hours to investigate the crash. If anyone has more information to share on this accident, please call the CHP.
