Mother and 8-Year-Old Daughter Suffer Severe Injuries after Struck by Two Hit-and-Run Drivers in South LA

 
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA (July 26, 2023) – Demetriz Forte and her 8-year-old daughter Kayleen Forte were severely injured in a hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles on July 20.
 
The crash happened around 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Vernon Avenue and Main Street. Police said the two were walking home from a grocery store. They were crossing the street in a crosswalk and a car had stopped for them to cross. However, the car behind plowed into the car in front of it, causing a chain reaction, hitting the victims.
 
After the crash, both drivers fled the scene.
 
Paramedics rushed both victims to a hospital with severe injuries. Demetriz sustained seven broken ribs and a broken pelvis. Kaylee had a broken collar bone and cuts all over her face.
 
The family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical expenses in the meantime.

The Los Angeles Police Department is handling the investigation.
