64-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by SUV on Santa Cruz Avenue in Modesto

 
MODESTO, CA (November 12, 2023) – Daniel Trevarthen was killed in a pedestrian accident in Modesto Thursday morning on November 9.
 
The fatal accident happened around 6:00 a.m. in the 300 block of Santa Cruz Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a white Chevrolet SUV struck Trevarthen near the intersection with Mono Drive.
 
First responders found Trevarthen lying in the southbound lane of Santa Cruz Avenue and was unresponsive.
 
Life-saving measures were performed, but Trevarthen died at the scene. He was a 64-year-old Modesto resident.
 
Preliminary investigations indicated the Chevrolet was heading southbound on Santa Cruz , approaching Mono at an undetermined speed.
 
Trevarthen who was in a wheelchair entered the intersection where there was no marked crosswalk. The Chevrolet was unable to avoid the crash.
 
It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
