18-Year-Old Woman Walking on 60 Freeway in Monterey Park Dies in Hit-and-Run Crash

 
MONTEREY PARK, CA (April 29, 2021)Crystal Ruby Soto was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Monterey Park early Wednesday morning, April 28.
 
The accident happened just after 2:00 a.m. on 60 Freeway east of Markland Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 18-year-old Long Beach woman was driving a Honda Accord westbound when she lost control of the car. She then veered left and hit the center divider.
 
As the Honda became disabled in the first lane, Soto and her three teenage passengers left the car and ran across the lanes toward the freeway shoulder. Another vehicle struck Soto then fled the scene.
 
As Good Samaritans stopped to help, Soto’s passengers ran away on foot before the CHP arrived.
 
Meanwhile, the car that struck that woman remains outstanding, but authorities could not provide a description of the vehicle.
 
There were no signs of alcohol or drugs found in the victim’s car. The crash remains under investigation.
