Carlos Cortez Arrested in DUI Crash on Olive Avenue [Porterville, CA]

Police Arrest Reckless Driver for DUI after Crash in Porterville

 
PORTERVILLE, CA (August 29, 2023) – Carlos Phillip Cortez was arrested after a DUI crash in Porterville Saturday morning on August 26.
 
Around 7:30 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Henderson Avenue and Prospect Street on a vehicle. The car yielded momentarily in a nearby parking lot before taking off.
 
Due to the reckless manner of the fleeing vehicle, officers terminated their pursuit. Moments later, they received a report of a collision in the area of Olive Avenue near Highway 65.
 
Upon arrival, officers determined the suspect vehicle had collided with a pole and another driver. The occupants of the suspect’s vehicle had fled the scene on foot.
 
Police later found Cortez, a 26-year-old Tulare resident, and identified him as the suspect. They arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol.
 
The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.
 
Porterville police booked Cortez on suspicion of reckless evading, DUI causing injury, fleeing the scene of an injury traffic collision, driving while unlicensed, and a parole hold. Cortez is being held without bail.

An investigation is ongoing.
