Caltrans Worker Struck, Injured by Car on Highway 101 in Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, CA (May 17, 2022) — A Caltrans worker was hit and injured by a driver on Highway 101 near Stowell Road on Monday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 9:00 a.m. While Caltrans crews worked to assist a trailer that had overturned on the northbound Highway 101 on-ramp to Stowell Road, a driver reportedly turned onto the closed on-ramp.

As the driver headed in the wrong direction, crews were able to get her to stop and turn around. However, she traveled too far forward and struck a worker’s leg, partially pulling him underneath.

As a result of the crash, the maintenance worker suffered bruises and scrapes.

Following the accident, police did not arrest the driver. However, an investigation into this accident should confirm the liability.

When driving, be aware of any road signs and traffic cones. You may stumble upon construction crews redirecting traffic. Remember to slow down and be alert at all times.
