Bicyclist Dies after Struck by Two Vehicles on South Melrose Drive in Vista, One Driver Flees Scene

 
VISTA, CA (March 10, 2024) – A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash on South Melrose Drive in Vista Thursday evening on March 7.
 
The fatal crash happened around 10:28 p.m. at the intersection with Buena Vista Drive. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, two vehicles struck the bicyclist in unclear circumstances.
 
As a result, the bicyclist suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office withheld their identity at this time.
 
Meanwhile, only one of the drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
 
The other driver fled the scene. Authorities believe they were driving a white crossover or SUV.
 
The sheriff’s department is seeking the public’s help in locating the vehicle that left the scene. They asked anyone with information about the crash to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. Up to a $1,000 reward was being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
