POINT LOMA, CA (April 12, 2022) – A 31-year-old bicyclist was injured in a traffic accident on Catalina Boulevard in Point Loma on Thursday afternoon, April 7.
According to officials with the San Diego Police Department, the male bicyclist was riding in one of the northbound lanes in the 500 block of Catalina Boulevard when an 80-year-old woman, driving a 2015 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, attempted to turn left onto Garden Lane.
The bicyclist struck the minivan in the second northbound lane of Catalina Boulevard.
As a result, the cyclist suffered a fractured collarbone, a fracture to the left wrist, as well as several lacerations.
The driver of the minivan was unharmed.
DUI was reportedly not a factor in this crash, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
When riding a bicycle, make sure you wear cycling gear and equipment that will make you more visible. If there is a bike lane, ride in that lane. Also, make sure the driver sees you and knows to stop.
