Woman Dies after Run Over while Trying to Help Someone Stuck in Snow in Big Bear

 
BIG BEAR, CA (March 6, 2023) – Barbie Hughes was hit and killed by a vehicle near Polique Canyon Road in Big Bear on February 25.
 
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Hughes was attempting to help someone stuck in the snow during the massive storms last week when a passing vehicle struck her.
 
First responders found Hughes still conscious and was able to get into a wheelchair on her own. The victim suffered severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital.
 
Hughes was intubated at the hospital as her pain grew. She had broken bones that punctured her lung and and her heart. She reportedly died early Sunday while under sedation.
 
Her family also created a GoFundMe to help pay for unexpected expenses related to her passing.
 
The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
