At Least 1 Hurt in Multi-Car Crash on Highway 163 in San Diego

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 20, 2023) — At least one person suffered an injury in a multi-car accident on Highway 163 near Clairemont Mesa Boulevard.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the multi-car crash involved five vehicles. The accident happened around 5:50 a.m. Wednesday on the northbound highway. Under unclear circumstances, three vehicles crashed. Shortly thereafter, two more collisions occurred.
 
At some point, one of the vehicles ruptured into flames. However, no one suffered major injuries. Paramedics transported one person to a nearby hospital and treated another one at the scene.
 
Information surrounding what led to these collisions is unclear. However, CHP officer Jesse Matias said the vehicle on fire was reportedly hit after stopping for the initial collision.
