23-Year-Old Woman Dies after Struck by Truck while Stop on Highway 99 near Sherwood Avenue

 
MCFARLAND, CA (September 18, 2023) – Andrea Marie Fanning was killed in a traffic accident in McFarland Sunday morning on September 10.
 
The fatal accident happened around 5:16 a.m. on Highway 99, just south of Sherwood Avenue. According to the CHP, Fanning was driving a 2014 Chevrolet when she came to a complete stop on the northbound highway without any lights on.
 
Shortly after, a 43-year-old woman from Shafter driving a 2019 GMC pickup truck at approximately 65 to 70 miles per hour did not see the Chevrolet and rear-ended the vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to veer off the roadway and onto the shoulder.
 
Fanning, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was a 23-year-old Bakersfield resident, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
 
CHP officers are still investigating if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
