Motorcyclist Dead, Alonso Moreno Arrested after Sacramento DUI Crash
SACRAMENTO, CA (February 22, 2021) – Authorities arrested 23-year-old Alonso Gonzalez Moreno following a fatal motorcycle crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Saturday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 10:27 p.m. A southbound BMW S1000 motorcycle stopped in a left-turn lane for a red light at Franklin Boulevard.
When the light turned green, the motorcyclist entered the intersection. However, a northbound 2002 Chevy Tahoe failed to stop at the red light and hit the motorcyclist.
The impact of the crash ejected the rider from his motorcycle.
Personnel with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene. Authorities did not release the name of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, the Chevy driver, Moreno, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Moreno reportedly admitted to having alcohol earlier in the evening. He was later booked in the Sacramento County Main Jail.
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal crash. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
