LIVE OAK, CA (June 13, 2023) — Allyson Navarro-Salazar and a 1-year-old died in a DUI head-on crash on Highway 99 near Paseo Road.
According to the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office, 21-year-old Allyson Nohelia Navarro-Salazar died in Friday’s multi-vehicle crash. A 1-year-old child from Gridley who remains unidentified also passed away.
Around 6:30 p.m., an unidentified driver crashed into a vehicle in Live Oak. Minutes later, that same driver, who the CHP Yuba-Sutter division believes was intoxicated, left the scene and headed southbound on Highway 99 at an unknown speed. The impaired driver’s vehicle subsequently sideswiped a car — whose driver reported no injuries after the crash — before striking a northbound vehicle, driven by Navarro-Salazer.
A fourth car reportedly rear-ended one of the involved vehicles and that driver reported minor injuries.
Officials at the scene totaled two fatalities. In addition, a 23-year-old Gridley man riding with Navarro-Salazar suffered significant injuries. Paramedics brought him to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.
The suspected DUI driver who caused the crash suffered minor injuries and is under investigation.
