Manteca Man Suffers Major Injuries in Merced DUI Hit-and-Run, Alexis Ramirez Arrested

MERCED, CA (July 28, 2021) – Police arrested 23-year-old Alexis Ramirez in a DUI hit-and-run on Highway 99 Tuesday, July 20.

The incident happened around 1:19 a.m., just north of Collier Road. Police said a 25-year-old Manteca man was driving a 2021 Dodge Ram towing a utility trailer. He safely pulled over to the right shoulder to inspect the trailer hitch. A passenger, 24-year-old Seth Lemmons of Turlock, stayed in the vehicle.

While the Manteca man was checking the connection, a 2006 Honda Accord driven by Ramirez of Turlock struck the back of the trailer.

The impact pushed the trailer forward, pinning the Manteca man.

After the crash, Ramirez fled the scene on foot. With assistance from witnesses and the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, he was later located hiding in a grass field.

The Manteca man suffered major injuries. An air ambulance took him to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto in critical condition.

Lemmons complained of pain and refused transport.

Ramirez had minor injuries. Police arrested and booked him into Merced County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI and hit-and-run, according to jail records.

An investigation is underway.
