ROV Accident at Oceano Dunes Kills Alejandro Ruiz, Injures 2

 
OCEANO, CA (June 29, 2021) – A man died in an ROV accident at the Oceano Dunes Saturday afternoon, June 26.
 
The California State Parks Department identified the man as 32-year-old Alejandro Espinoza Ruiz of Santa Maria.
 
The accident happened around 12:15 p.m. in the area of the park known as Sand Highway 22. According to the CHP, the accident involved a Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle. State Park Rangers, Lifeguards and CAL FIRE crews responded and found three men in their 30s at the bottom of a roughly 20-foot dune.
 
Authorities found Ruiz dead at the scene of the crash.
 
The two other men were injured. Officials airlifted one of the men to the hospital while the other was transported by ground ambulance. However, their current conditions remain unclear.
 
State Park Rangers are still investigating the cause of the crash and factors involved.
