Rollover Crash on 15 Freeway in Apple Valley Kills Teen Driver and Passenger

 
APPLE VALLEY, CA (March 7, 2024) – Albert Flores and Zaira Y. Aviles were killed in a rollover accident in Apple Valley Wednesday morning on March 6.
 
The fatal accident happened around 7:16 a.m. on 15 Freeway just north of Dale Evans Parkway. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2023 Kia Forte was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to maintain lane positions and allowed the Kia to deviate to the right of the freeway.
 
The Kia traveled into the open desert terrain where the Kia became airborne on the uneven dirt surface and overturned several times.
 
As a result, both the driver and the passenger suffered fatal injuries.
 
The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office identified Flores and Aviles as the fatal victims. Both were 18 years old and Colton residents.
 
Responding officers found no immediate evidence of impaired driving or reckless behavior prior to the crash.
 
The CHP is continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
