9-Year-Old Girl, Woman Dead in Merced County Two-Car Crash on Highway 165

MERCED COUNTY, CA (May 10, 2021) — A 9-year-old girl and a woman died in a two-car accident on Highway 165 near Westside Boulevard Saturday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident happened around 11:05 a.m. For unknown reasons, a 42-year-old woman from Stevinson tried to make a right turn but overcorrected to the left. Subsequently, her 2006 Kia Rio, heading northbound, collided with a southbound 2016 Chevy Silverado. To avoid the crash, the 32-year-old driver tried to take evasive action, but efforts fell short.

As a result of the impact, the 42-year-old woman and a 9-year-old were ejected from the Kia and died. Shortly after, paramedics responded and transported the Chevy Silverado driver from Modesto, a 30-year-old woman and three children —  ages 5, 10 and 11 — to a hospital with minor injuries.

At this time, the authorities have not confirmed the cause of the accident. However, if anyone has more information on this fatal accident, please contact the CHP.
