87-Year-Old Barbara Ferris Killed in House Fire, DUI Crash on Esplanade near Washington Avenue

 
CHICO, CA (March 4, 2024) Barbara Ferris died in a home fire following a DUI accident on Esplanade near Washington Avenue.
 
According to Chico State Police, the deadly fiery accident happened around 1:45 a.m. Friday morning. For possible DUI reasons, a driver shuttling two female occupants in a high-speed Ford Mustang lost control in the 900 block of Esplanade near East Sacramento Avenue. Subsequently, the Ford Mustang, which Chico State University Police tried pursuing, crashed into a home across the street from Chico High School.
 
Upon impact, the gas tank ruptured, igniting the residence on fire.
 
Soon after, paramedics and police officers arrived and located Ferris dead at the scene and her husband with unspecified injuries. Paramedics also took two women in the car to Enloe Health, but officers found no sign of the driver.
 
According to reports, police arrested what might have been the driver; however, some reports argue otherwise.
 
Authorities need help looking for all other occupants involved in this deadly crash.
