78-Year-Old Man Dies after Driver Strikes Boat Towed by Vehicle on Highway 905

OTAY MESA, CA (November 1, 2021) — A 78-year-old man dies after a driver hit a boat, towed by another car, on Highway 905 near the 5 Freeway on October 30.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal and tragic incident happened around 6:45 a.m. For unknown reasons, a Chevy truck towing a small fishing boat broke down and partially blocked the slow lane.
 
Subsequently, a passenger in a Chevy exited the car and tried to fix the issue. However, an oncoming Honda CRV driver approaching the scene failed to see the disabled vehicle and boat ahead, hitting the back of the fishing boat and crushing the 78-year-old man.
 
Tragically, the victim died moments later. Soon after, CHP responded and interviewed the Honda driver, who authorities believe was not impaired at the time.
 
At this time, the crash requires additional investigation, including if foggy weather precipitated the cause. Therefore, any witnesses with information should contact the CHP.
