6 Hospitalized, Multi-Car Crash on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara

 
SANTA BARBARA, CA (September 13, 2023) — Six people suffered a range of injuries in Tuesday’s multi-car accident on Highway 101 near Carrillo Street.
 
According to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department, the multi-vehicle crash happened shortly after midnight. Under unclear circumstances, at least three cars crashed in the southbound lane, south of the Carrillo Street off-ramp.
 
Shortly after, firefighter-paramedics arrived and extricated occupants from two vehicles. Three ambulances ushered six patients, including one with serious wounds, to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
 
At some point during the accident, one vehicle sheared a large portion of a guardrail that ended up on the off-ramp.
 
Following the accident, authorities narrowed down traffic to one lane as emergency crews cared for the injured.
 
At this time, an explanation for the crash is unavailable. However, we will update this report with more information.
