Child Dead, Another Injured in DUI Solo-Car Accident on Highway 4 in Martinez

 
MARTINEZ, CA (December 18, 2023) — A 5-year-old child died after a DUI driver crashed a car into a tree on Highway 4 near Morello Avenue.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly solo-car crash happened around 12:06 a.m. Sunday. For DUI reasons, a driver of a gray Honda CRV drifted off the road and struck a tree.
 
Soon after, paramedics responded and pronounced a 5-year-old, not properly restrained in a child seat, dead at the scene. An 11-year-old passenger sustained major injuries and received hospital treatment for life-threatening wounds.
 
Following an investigation, officers arrested the moderately injured driver on suspicion of DUI and manslaughter.
 
At the time of the report, authorities did not confirm if the children were related to the driver. However, the details of this crash, including the events preceding the impact, will undergo investigation.
