OAKLAND, CA (July 18, 2022) — Two people were injured after a train hit a railroad vehicle on 50th Street near San Leandro Street Friday.
 
According to Oakland Fire Department officials, the accident happened around 12:00 p.m. Friday. For unknown reasons, a train crashed into a railroad vehicle, causing the vehicle to overturn. Soon after, emergency personnel responded to the scene and rescued the railroad vehicle driver from the wreckage. Subsequently, medics brought the Amtrak train operator and a train passenger to a hospital for treatment.
 
Not long after, a HazMat team responded to assess reports of a 700-gallon diesel tank spill and its potential impact. Due to the accident and fuel spill, rail traffic stopped in both directions and caused delays between San Jose and Oakland that afternoon.
 
At this time, the details of the accident require more examination. However, investigators added that the accident happened as the worker was using a front loader to clear the train tracks of debris.
