Rachel Norton Injured in Fatal Big Rig Accident on Eastin Road [Modesto, CA]

Passenger Dies after Car Collides with Big Rig near Eastin Road and West Stuhr Road

 
MODESTO, CA (July 18, 2022) – A passenger died while Rachel Norton was injured when their car collided with a big rig in Modesto Friday morning on July 15.
 
The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. near Eastin Road and West Stuhr Road. CHP officials said Norton, a 22-year-old Riverbank resident, was driving a 2015 Toyota south on Stuhr Road. The car stopped at the intersection before it entered directly into the path of a Peterbilt tractor trailer, driven by 58-year-old Daniel Forte of Los Banos.
 
Stuhr does not have a stop sign at the intersection, the CHP said.
 
The front of the Peterbilt struck the right side of the Toyota. The impact sent the Toyota off the roadway. It then overturned before coming to rest on its wheels.
 
The female passenger in the Toyota died at the scene.
 
A helicopter took Norton to Doctors Medical Center with major injuries.
 
Meanwhile, Forte was unhurt.
 
All occupants were wearing their seat belts. It is unknown whether drugs and/or alcohol was a factor.
 
The California Highway Patrol is still investigating this fatal crash.
