Small Plane Crashes at Gillespie Field Airport on Magnolia Avenue in El Cajon Injuring Two People
EL CAJON, CA (September 14, 2023) – Two people were injured in a small plane crash at Magnolia Avenue and Airport Drive Saturday morning on September 9.
The crash happened around 11:00 a.m. at Gillespie Field Airport. According to the Heartland Fire Department, a single-engine Bellanca 7ECA with two people inside crashed into a fence at the airport after it came up short of the runway during landing.
According to firefighters, the plane missed the runway causing it to crash into a fence across the street. It then rolled across the road and hit the airport’s fence.
Both the pilot and passenger suffered minor injuries during the crash. However, they were not taken to the hospital.
A car driving north on Magnolia Avenue hit a piece of fence debris that was on the road. The mother and daughter inside the car were not hurt.
The Federal Aviation Administration is handling the investigation.
