LOST HILLS, CA (September 21, 2023) — Two people were injured when their car crashed into a semi-truck during a fire on Highway 46 near Kecks Road.

According to the Kern County Fire Department, the fire broke out around 8:17 a.m. Wednesday. Upon responding, firefighters found a semi-truck on fire, which not only engulfed the semi-truck but spread to a quarter of an acre of grass.

Soon after, a 52-year-old man driving a Peterbilt in the No. 2 lane slowed down as he approached the semi-truck that was on fire. However, a 68-year-old man operating a Ford Econoline did not stop in time and crashed into the rear of the Peterbilt. Upon impact, the Ford overturned on its side and slid into a Kern County fire truck on the right shoulder.

The driver of the Ford suffered minor injuries, but his passenger — a 48-year-old woman — sustained life-threatening wounds. Paramedics took both patients to a hospital.

At this time, officers do not know what caused the fire or the factors leading to the crash. However, if anyone has more information, please call the authorities.
