Police Arrest Michael Jacobs for DUI after Crash in Susanville Badly Injuring Teen Passenger

SUSANVILLE, CA (September 28, 2023) – A 14-year-old girl was seriously injured in a DUI crash in Susanville Wednesday last week on September 20.

Around 3:40 p.m., 45-year-old Michael Jacobs was driving his 2005 Chevrolet pickup eastbound on Warner Valley Road, just east of High Bridge at an undetermined speed.

The 14-year-old girl was seated in the pickup bed of the Chevrolet with no safety equipment. Due to Jacobs’ suspected level of alcohol intoxication, Jacobs allowed the Chevrolet to leave the roadway to the south.

During the crash, the girl was ejected from the rear of the Chevrolet and she landed into the roadway.

The girl was flown to Enloe Medical Center for suspected major injuries, and later to UC Davis Medical Center.

Jacobs was unharmed. Police arrested him for driving under the influence.

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.

Always be a responsible driver. Before you go out drinking, choose a designated driver who would not be drinking any alcohol. This way, you know you will have a safe and sober ride home. If everyone is drinking, call a taxi or a ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft to come pick you up.
