1 Person Dies in Escondido Police Pursuit Motorcycle Crash on Washington Avenue

 
ESCONDIDO, CA (August 29, 2023) — One person died in a motorcycle accident during a police chase on Washington Avenue near Harding Street.
 
According to Escondido police officers, the fatal accident happened around 12:30 p.m. Sunday. For an unknown reason, a 22-year-old motorcyclist fled from police when officers tried to pull over the individual for speeding on the 15 Freeway. Subsequently, the suspect led officers on a pursuit through Valley Center into Escondido.
 
At some point, officers lost sight of the suspect until they found the individual on Washington Avenue at Ash Street. However, the rider sped up and ran a red light but crashed into the front bumper of a northbound vehicle at Harding Street. Upon impact, the rider flew and struck a westbound car.
 
Soon after, paramedics responded but pronounced the motorcyclist deceased at the scene. The northbound driver suffered unknown injuries and the westbound driver did not report any pain.
