1 Person Dead in 2-Car Crash on Highway 101 in Monterey

 
MONTEREY, CA (April 18, 2023) — One person died in a 2-car accident on Highway 101 near Main Street.
 
According to Monterey California Highway Patrol units, the deadly two-vehicle collision happened around 10:15 p.m. Sunday. For unknown reasons, a 35-year-old man driving southbound on the highway lost control of his vehicle. His car subsequently rolled over and came to a rest in the right lane with its lights off.
 
Shortly after, witnesses to the incident pulled over and turned on their hazard lights while using flashlights to alert oncoming drivers of the crash.
 
However, a driver in the right lane drawing toward the crash noticed the witness but overlooked the flipped car ahead. While traveling at 65 miles per hour, the second car crashed into the flipped vehicle, causing fatal injuries to the victim in the overturned vehicle.
 
Due to the accident, officials shut down Highway 101 South for nearly an hour to investigate.
