Man Dies after Struck by Runaway U-Haul Truck at Jones and Geary Streets

 
TENDERLOIN, CA (April 13, 2023) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident at Jones Street and Geary Street in the Tenderloin area of San Francisco on Tuesday.
 
The fatal accident happened shortly after noon on April 11. According to the San Francisco Police Department, the victim was near a parked car when he was struck by a U-Haul truck. The U-Haul continued to roll into the intersection where it then collided with a FedEx delivery truck before coming to a rest.
 
Witnesses performed CPR on the man. Paramedics arrived soon after and rushed the man to San Francisco General Hospital.
 
Despite life-saving efforts at the hospital, the man was pronounced dead.
 
Meanwhile, a man who was in the passenger seat as the truck began rolling away yanked on the steering wheel, and swerved the uhaul into a parked FedEx truck. His quick action likely saved lives, since the truck would likely have continued rolling downhill in an area filled with pedestrians.
 
Police are still investigating the fatality.
