1 Killed, 1 Injured in Accident at Central Avenue and East Hatch Road [Ceres, CA]

Traffic Accident on Central Avenue in Ceres Kills Driver and Badly Injures Passenger

 
CERES, CA (July 19, 2021) – One person died and another sustained life-threatening injuries after a traffic accident at Central Avenue and East Hatch Road Saturday night.
 
The accident happened around 6:07 p.m. on July 17. According to the Ceres Police Department, an officer tried to stop a silver Volkswagen Beetle but its driver drove way at high speed on Central Avenue.
 
The Volkswagen lost control and struck the side of the trailer of an eastbound semi truck, police said. The car then became wedged underneath the trailer.
 
As a result, both the driver and the passenger of the Volkswagen was pinned inside the car. Firefighters extricated them for about 15 minutes.
 
The driver did not survive and died at the scene. Paramedics took the passenger to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
 
A portion of the car was sheared off and came to rest on the sidewalk in front of the Turlock Irrigation District substation at the intersection.
 
It is unknown at this time why the pursuit was initiated. The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
