Passenger Dies after Car Crashes into Light Pole on Joaquin Miller Road in Oakland, DUI Suspect Arrested

 
OAKLAND, CA (April 24, 2023) – A passenger died in a DUI crash at Joaquin Miller Road and Skyline Boulevard in Oakland Saturday morning on April 22.
 
The fatal crash happened around 8:37 a.m. near Reinhardt Redwood and Joaquin Miller regional parks. According to the Oakland Police Department, a Hyunda Elantra carrying two people had crashed into a light pole.
 
When officers arrived, they found the 27-year-old passenger suffering from major injuries, while the 23-year-old driver had minor injuries.
 
Paramedics rushed the passenger to a hospital, where he later died.
 
Police determined that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. They arrested him and booked him into the Santa Rita Jail.
