Passenger Dead, Driver Injured in Suspected DUI Accident on La Grange Road in Snelling

 
SNELLING, CA (February 8, 2024) — One person died in a possible DUI solo-car crash on La Grange Road near Fields Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly accident happened around 12:43 a.m. Saturday. For possible DUI reasons, a 58-year-old Merced man lost control of his 2017 Toyota Yaris. Subsequently, the northbound Toyota, traveling at an unknown speed, veered off the shoulder and rolled over several times.
 
Both the driver and 60-year-old male passenger from Merced were not wearing their seat belts and were ejected from the car.
 
Soon after, CHP and paramedics arrived at the crash site, confirming the passenger dead on arrival. As for the driver, paramedics took him to a Modesto-area hospital for treatment.
 
Following the accident, traffic investigators believe DUI might have factored into the cause after locating a small amount of drugs and paraphernalia on one of the occupants.
