Passenger Extricated after Head-On Accident on Highway 246 near Campbell Road in Lompoc

 
LOMPOC, CA (July 8, 2021) – A passenger sustained serious injuries following a head-on accident on Highway 246, Saturday afternoon.
 
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the incident happened on July 3, shortly after 4:00 p.m. For reasons still under investigation, a sedan and a pickup truck collided head-on near Campbell Road.
 
Emergency responders had to extricate a 70-year-old passenger from the vehicle. A Mercy Air medical helicopter later transported the victim to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of major lower-body injuries.
 
Meanwhile, two other victims sustained minor injuries.
 
The California Highway Patrol temporarily closed Highway 246 to make way for the helicopter.
 
Officers continue to investigate the cause of the accident. SBCFD will release additional information once it becomes available.
