57-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Lake Elsinore

 
LAKE ELSINORE, CA (September 8, 2024) – Desmond Gallagher was killed in a DUI hit-and-run crash in Lake Elsinore Thursday evening on September 5.
 
The fatal crash happened around 9:27 p.m. on Highway 74, just west of Ardenwood Way. According to the California Highway Patrol, Gallagher was pushing a shopping cart on the highway when a 2018 Nissan Versa struck him.
 
The woman driving the Nissan was traveling behind Gallagher before making an unsafe right turn and hitting the victim.
 
After the crash, the woman fled the scene without stopping.
 
Gallagher suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was a 57-year-old Lake Elsinore resident.
 
On Friday, police found the suspect and arrested her. They booked her into the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, felony hit-and-run, and gross vehicular manslaughter.
